Clippers: Diaz In, Conroy Out
The Los Angeles Clippers waived point guard Will Conroy on Monday trimming the roster down to 14 players. While the Los Angeles Clippers appreciated Conroy's brief stint with the team last season, there was very little chance he would make the team past training camp.
With his fate clear, Conroy had begun to look elsewhere for work. To that aim, the Los Angeles Clippers have freed him up to pursue a more lucrative, guaranteed contract (likely overseas).
This move comes on the heels of the Los Angeles Clippers signing second round pick Guillermo Diaz on Thursday. Diaz was taken in the 2006 NBA draft but spent last year overseas developing his game.
Although Diaz' contract is not fully guaranteed, the team reportedly (per DraftExpress.com) used part of their Mid-Level Exception to sign him to a three-year, minimum contract.
Diaz will wear jersey number "1" as a Clipper.
Los Angeles still has the rights to this year's second round pick Jared Jordan. He's expected to sign at some point before the end of the summer . . . likely to a partially guaranteed contract as well.
If the Los Angeles Clippers follow through on the reported re-signing of Yaroslav Korolev along with inking Jordan, they'll have 16 players on the roster.
With Sam Cassell, Brevin Knight, Diaz, Jordan and Shaun Livingston (still recovering from the knee injury), the Los Angeles Clippers will have plenty of options at the point.
Unless Coach Mike Dunleavy is able to use Diaz as a scoring guard, which is more of his natural position despite his 6'2" frame, there would seem to be little chance both Diaz and Jordan make the opening night roster.
