Crystal Ballin': L.A. Clippers
Crystal Ballin' takes a team-by-team look at what should, could, and probably will happen in the June 28th NBA Draft.
The Los Angeles Clippers finished one game out of the playoffs, and thanks to that we got to see an historic run from the Golden State Warriors. But had the Los Angeles Clippers not been ravaged by injuries at the point guard position, they likely would have made the post-season. After a disappointing year, the Clips will look to get back to the playoffs by targeting a point guard with their lottery pick.
Needs: The Los Angeles Clippers need to get some stability at the point guard position. With Sam Cassell and Shaun Livingston both trying to come back from injuries, the Clips need to look towards the future and try to upgrade from last year's late season fill-in, Jason Hart.
Best Case Scenario: Acie Law. This is mostly a case of personal preference, as Javaris Crittenton seems to be ranked in virtually the same place by most experts. But to me, the guy that has played four years in college is more valuable than the guy that's played one. Unless your name's Greg Oden, but whatever.
More Likely Scenario: Either Acie Law or Javaris Crittenton should be available here, so they're both likely candidates. It largely depends on which one the Atlanta Hawks, who draft two picks before the Clips and have a similar need, like better, Please Don't Take: Gabe Pruitt, but only because he's more of a scorer than a distributor. The Los Angeles Clippers really need someone to run the offense and get the ball to Elton Brand in the post, and I think Pruitt will take some time to develop into that type of guard.
Second-Round Possibilities: If the Clips don't get the guy they want in the first round, they could make a run at Taurean Green in the second. Green's quickness and experience in running a championship Gator team could allow him to contribute right away for a team that could be very thin at the one spot to start the season.
